emirates7 - As part of the "Be Aware" campaign launched by the Sharjah Police General Command in December, the "Capture the Flag" challenge commenced on Monday in the Aljada area.
The event brought together 200 participants, including university students and IT professionals, with the aim of raising cybersecurity awareness and equipping young individuals with essential skills to address digital security challenges in a dynamic and competitive setting.
The competition focuses on seven core areas: open-source intelligence, digital forensics, decryption, network security testing, web application hacking, reverse engineering, and phishing. Additionally, specialized workshops were conducted to introduce participants to the fundamentals of "Capture the Flag" challenges and address electronic phishing.
Brigadier Ahmed Haji Al Serkal, Director-General of the General Department of Prevention and Community Protection, stated that the challenge would run over two days, January 27 and 28, 2025, as part of the "Be Aware" initiative.
He explained that the competition involves participants searching for a "flag"—a concealed file or piece of information within a virtual environment. Points are awarded for solving challenges, with the top five scorers earning recognition.
The event also features workshops led by cybersecurity experts to enhance participants' ability to address modern security threats.
