emirates7 - Under the guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the ‘Dubai Ruler’s Court Race’ for elite male cyclists is set to take place on January 19.
Organized by the Private Office of H.H. the Ruler of Dubai, the race is a key event in the 9th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, recognized as the world’s largest community cycling competition in terms of diversity and prize value.
The 193-kilometre race will begin at noon from His Highness the Ruler’s Court in the historic Al Fahidi District. The route will traverse several of Dubai’s iconic landmarks, including the Old Dubai Customs Building, the Ministry of Defence, Dubai Creek, Al Seef Street, Creek Park, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai Frame, Za’abeel Park, Future Street, Dubai World Trade Centre, Emirates Towers, Museum of the Future, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Tower, and Za’abeel Palace, concluding at the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve.
The Supreme Organising Committee of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, led by His Excellency Omair bin Jumaa Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of H.H. the Ruler of Dubai, has completed preparations to ensure the event meets the highest standards of organization, prioritizing participant safety and showcasing Dubai’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
Al Falasi highlighted the symbolic importance of starting the race from H.H. the Ruler’s Court, a landmark that has significantly contributed to Dubai’s development. The Supreme Committee frequently incorporates prominent national landmarks into the race routes. Last year’s race began at Al Shindagha, near Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum’s House, a site integral to Dubai’s modern history. Previous events have featured locations like Hatta and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
On January 17, the Supreme Organising Committee held a briefing for team managers to outline race details, rules, and procedures. Participation is exclusive to elite cyclists from the UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The 9th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship began in December with the ‘Sword of Honour’ Race, dedicated to Emirati amateur cyclists. This event celebrated the graduation of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK, where he earned the prestigious ‘International Sword’ for best international cadet and the International Award for the highest overall results in military, academic, and practical studies—becoming the first Emirati to receive both accolades simultaneously.
The championship continues with the Desert Race on February 9 and the Women’s Race on February 16.
The Al Salam Cycling Championship is organized in partnership with key entities, including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Sports TV channel, UAE Cycling Federation (as General Referee), and Dubai Film.
