emirates7 - The UAE hosted the ninth High-Level Steering Group Meeting of the Emirati-German Energy and Climate Partnership in Abu Dhabi, aiming to identify areas of collaboration and activities for 2025 within the framework of the partnership.

The meeting, held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, was co-chaired by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The gathering reviewed progress made in 2024 and set goals for 2025.

Following the meeting, participants celebrated the 9th Emirati-German Energy Day, themed "Enabling Flexibility for Successful Renewable Energy Integration."

Al Olama emphasized the strong Emirati-German partnership, highlighting its significant progress over the past nine years in the energy and climate sectors. He noted that this partnership is a key example of successful bilateral cooperation. He further stressed the UAE’s commitment to the UAE Consensus, aiming for a transition away from fossil fuels and a just shift to net-zero by 2050, with goals to triple renewables and double efficiency by 2030.

Wenzel recognized the partnership as a model of collaboration, focusing on the renewable energy transition, economic growth, and energy security. He pointed out the importance of areas like power system flexibility, energy efficiency, start-up involvement, and cross-border energy cooperation in advancing shared COP28 commitments.

The session addressed how to successfully integrate renewable energy into grid systems, with experts discussing the challenges and providing solutions for a smooth transition to cleaner energy sources.

Launched in January 2017 and expanded to include climate issues in October 2022, the Emirati-German Energy and Climate Partnership is a joint initiative between the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The partnership aims to foster dialogue between industry and public sector stakeholders from both countries.
