emirates7 - The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), through the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP), will host the 7th International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) from January 28th to 30th, 2025, at Conrad Abu Dhabi, Etihad Towers.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and with the presence of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, the forum will bring together over 50 prominent speakers, including global experts, policymakers, and researchers, to discuss water security and weather modification.
With a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for weather enhancement, the forum aims to serve as a global platform for scientific discussions, fostering collaboration and innovation in the field of rain enhancement science.
The event also marks the 10th anniversary of UAEREP, highlighting its decade-long commitment to advancing rain enhancement technologies as a sustainable solution to water scarcity and contributing to both local and global water and food security.
Since its inception, the UAEREP has allocated AED 82.6 million to fund 14 successful research projects, resulting in eight patents, with three more pending.
The forum will begin with a special ceremony to recognize distinguished figures and institutions that have contributed to the program's success over the past ten years.
Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, NCM Director-General and President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), emphasized the continuous support from leadership in enhancing UAEREP’s outcomes, establishing it as a global hub for weather modification and water sustainability research.
UAEREP will also launch its sixth award cycle during the forum, focusing on five key research areas: Optimized Seeding Materials, Novel Cloud Formation and/or Rain Enhancement Systems, Autonomous UAS, Limited-Area Climate Interventions, and Advanced Models, Software, and Data.
Researchers from academia, government, and industry worldwide will be invited to submit research pre-proposals from the first day of IREF on January 28th until March 20th, 2025.
Alya Al Mazrouei, Director of UAEREP, stated that the 7th IREF will play a crucial role in advancing scientific understanding and technological innovations related to water sustainability and weather enhancement, particularly through AI and other technological breakthroughs.
Sessions at the forum will address key topics such as global water security perspectives, advancements in hybrid AI-physics-based models, innovations in autonomous unmanned aerial systems for weather modification, new cloud-seeding materials, and novel approaches to rainfall enhancement.
Additionally, students and early-career scientists will have the opportunity to present their research in a dedicated poster session.
