Burjeel Medical City launches Balance Lab to enhance ENT services

emirates7 - Burjeel Medical City (BMC), the flagship facility of Burjeel Holdings, has launched a cutting-edge Balance Lab as part of its Burjeel ENT Head & Neck Institute. This new addition aims to provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for balance and vertigo disorders, bolstering BMC’s expertise in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

The Balance Lab was inaugurated by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, alongside Group CEO John Sunil, BMC CEO Dr. Mujtaba Ali Khan, and other senior officials.

Commenting on the launch, Sunil stated, “The Balance Lab represents a pivotal advancement in our mission to deliver world-class, patient-centric care. By integrating state-of-the-art technologies and adopting a multidisciplinary approach, we are setting new standards for diagnosing and treating balance and vertigo disorders with enhanced precision.”

Designed to cater to patients of all ages, the lab addresses a variety of balance and vertigo-related conditions stemming from inner ear disorders, neurological issues, strokes, muscle weakness, and peripheral neuropathy. It employs a structured diagnostic protocol to accurately identify and quantify the causes of dizziness and imbalance.

The lab is equipped with advanced technologies, including Vestibular Nystagmography (VNG), Video Head Impulse Test (VHIT), rotatory chairs, and TRV chairs specifically for treating persistent Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). These tools allow for precise localisation and assessment of balance system impairments. Additionally, Computerised Dynamic Posturography enables simulation of various scenarios, such as visual and movement-based conditions, aiding in the early detection of balance disorders that might otherwise remain unnoticed.

Rehabilitation is a key focus, with tailored therapy programmes designed to address chronic challenges and prevent falls. This integration of advanced diagnostics and rehabilitation facilitates targeted treatment plans, ensuring effective recovery.

Dr. Shaik Irfan Basha, Director of the Burjeel ENT Head & Neck Institute, highlighted the facility’s uniqueness: “Our Balance Lab brings together all essential diagnostic and rehabilitation tools with advanced software, enabling us to identify complex conditions early and support recovery through a multidisciplinary approach.”

The institute has also introduced a state-of-the-art hearing aid booth, offering a comprehensive range of services. These include fitting, calibration, programming, troubleshooting, custom ear molds, swim plugs, and tinnitus masking devices, ensuring personalised and effective hearing care for patients.

The addition of these advanced services and technologies in the Balance Lab and hearing aid booth is set to significantly enhance patient outcomes and improve overall care standards.
