emirates7 - Drydocks World has inaugurated its multi-million-dollar South Yard expansion, a cutting-edge 75,000-square-meter facility designed to enhance its fabrication capabilities and solidify its leadership in global marine and offshore wind energy projects.
The expansion boosts fabrication capacity by 40% and overall yard capacity by 25%, enabling the company to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously. The South Yard features the largest load-out jetty in the Middle East and Africa, capable of handling structures up to 37,000 tonnes, positioning Drydocks World to address the growing demand for energy transition projects and innovative offshore solutions worldwide.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, stated, "The South Yard expansion reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainable growth. As global demand for advanced energy solutions increases, this facility strengthens our position in renewable energy infrastructure while setting new benchmarks for operational excellence. With this milestone, Drydocks World is shaping the future of the maritime and offshore industries."
Equipped with advanced technology, including robotic profile-cutting machines, automated CNC systems, and a heavy-duty rolling machine, the South Yard significantly enhances fabrication precision and efficiency. It is designed to support up to 3,000 workers daily and handle complex projects such as converting Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, constructing topsides for offshore platforms, and building high-voltage alternating and direct current (HVAC and HVDC) converter platforms for the offshore wind energy market.
A 5,000-tonne Sheerleg Floating Crane, expected to be operational by 2026, will further enhance the yard's capacity for large-scale and intricate projects.
Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, highlighted the transformative impact of the South Yard, noting, "This facility enhances our ability to execute complex global projects efficiently, with smarter logistics and high HSSE standards. It plays a critical role in supporting the energy transition and meeting the needs of a rapidly evolving market."
Aligned with the company’s sustainability goals, the South Yard operates entirely on clean energy sourced from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, significantly reducing its carbon footprint and ensuring compliance with international environmental standards. It is purpose-built to support green energy infrastructure and incorporates sustainable practices throughout its operations.
Captain Antolovic added, "This expansion is not just about capacity; it underscores our commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and advancing the energy transition."
