emirates7 - The National Experts Programme (NEP) has become a pivotal force in driving the UAE's ambitious vision, empowering 86 Emirati experts to take leadership roles in transforming essential sectors shaping the nation's future.
Since its inception in 2019, NEP has grown into a foundational element across various sectors in the UAE, with an increasing global impact. It boasts the highest number of advanced degree holders, including 14 PhDs and 57 master's degrees, highlighting the exceptional qualifications of its experts.
Ahmed Al Shamsi, NEP Director, shared his thoughts on the program’s long-term influence, stating, "NEP is committed to cultivating expertise and fostering innovation, continuing to align with the UAE's goals for the next 50 years. It has contributed significantly to national priorities, developing a diverse range of expertise mentored by NEP."
NEP experts are actively involved in projects addressing critical challenges, aligned with the UAE's national priorities. Notable initiatives include a virtual environmental identity by Abdulla Al Remeithi to measure per capita carbon footprints, a model for electronic waste management led by Azza Al Raisi to reduce e-waste carbon emissions, and AI-based studies on marine mammals by Maitha Al Hameli to support biodiversity. Additionally, Nour Al Mehairi developed a platform connecting eco-conscious consumers to local sustainable farms in the UAE.
The program also played an important role in national initiatives, particularly during the Year of Sustainability, with six Fellows and Alumni joining the Sustainability Experts Network to advance public engagement and sustainability efforts.
On the global stage, NEP experts have represented the UAE at COP27 and COP28, contributing seven initiatives, two white papers, and hosting 15 key sessions. Most recently, NEP fellows were UAE negotiators at COP29 in Baku, further asserting their influence in international climate discussions.
NEP experts also participated in important policy dialogues at the G7 and G20 summits, solidifying the UAE's position as a leader in shaping global sustainability and economic policies.
Furthermore, NEP has published 12 reports on the impact of artificial intelligence across sectors like education, culture, diplomacy, and food and agriculture.
As the program enters its fourth cohort, NEP Alumni are set to collaborate with new participants in advancing national priorities in space, education, technology, AI, and healthcare.
