COP29 opens in Baku with ambitious climate goals

emirates7 - The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) opened today in Baku, Azerbaijan, bringing together a wide range of international participants to advance a refreshed agenda for global climate action. This agenda aims to harmonize global priorities with practical capacities, delivering concrete and fair outcomes.

In the main session, the United Arab Emirates will officially pass the COP presidency to Azerbaijan while continuing its role as an essential partner in driving global climate diplomacy forward.

At the UAE pavilion, the nation showcases its pioneering path toward sustainability and climate neutrality, its progress in sustainable development, and its innovative approaches to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship. The pavilion also highlights the UAE’s commitment to fostering international collaboration to combat climate change impacts.

A key focus at COP29 is the “Global Climate Finance Framework,” designed to mobilize funding for developing countries to address climate-related challenges.

Central to this year’s summit is the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), the upcoming annual climate finance target set to replace the current $100 billion commitment, which expires at the end of this year.
