emirates7 - Dibba Al Hisn Municipality has introduced the first model of residential gardens in the Emirate of Sharjah, developed with the involvement of local residents. This initiative marks the first of its kind in the region.
The project responds to citizens' needs by providing green spaces near their homes, fostering a healthy and safe environment for families, including children and the elderly. It aligns with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who envisions "a garden in every home."
The idea for these residential gardens emerged from a study conducted by the municipality, which found that the interior spaces in many homes in Dibba Al Hisn were insufficient for creating gardens. To address this, the municipality identified suitable external areas, each approximately 70 square meters, that meet the requirements for establishing residential gardens. This approach ensures that all homes can benefit from nearby green spaces, enhancing the residents' quality of life.
Research highlights the crucial role of gardens in promoting the physical and mental well-being of both children and the elderly. They offer a secure environment for children to play and expend energy, helping to develop their motor and social skills. For the elderly, gardens encourage light physical activities and outdoor enjoyment, which can improve overall health and reduce stress.
Talib Abdullah Al Yahyaei, Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, emphasized that the initiative is part of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision for environmental sustainability. The goal is to utilize all available spaces for planting greenery, which improves air quality, reduces temperatures, and contributes to combating climate change.
Al Yahyaei added that the initiative aims to enhance the happiness and well-being of citizens by providing a safe, healthy environment for children and the elderly. This project underscores the municipality's commitment to raising the quality of life and supporting sustainable development in the city.
The municipality plans to establish more residential gardens in the future to address the needs of families and residents, as part of a broader vision to maximize the use of available spaces. The goal is to more green areas for children, complementing neighborhood gardens and contributing to a holistic vision for a healthy, sustainable city.
To ensure sustainability, the municipality has outlined several design requirements for the gardens. These include using local plants that require minimal water, employing smart irrigation systems for water efficiency, incorporating flexible designs for easy rearrangement, providing safe and eco-friendly play areas, shaded seating for families, and small plots for growing vegetables and fruits to encourage local agriculture.
The gardens also feature informational signboards offering guidelines on garden use and maintenance, along with environmental tips and advice for home gardening. Through this initiative, Dibba Al Hisn Municipality aims to balance urban development with environmental preservation, enhancing citizens' quality of life and promoting a sense of happiness, well-being, and satisfaction.
