emirates7 - The UAE government, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), has officially launched the "We the UAE 2031 Strategic Intelligence Councils." This joint initiative aims to gather approximately 120 stakeholders each year to explore how global trends can be utilized to support the national vision, "We the UAE 2031," which seeks to establish the UAE as a significant global partner and economic hub.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, announced the initiative during the 2024 Annual Meeting of Global Future Councils in Dubai, taking place from October 15-17.
This initiative follows a previous agreement made at the 2024 WEF Annual Meeting in Davos in January, which involved launching the "We the UAE for Strategic Intelligence 2031" platform. The platform is designed to assist UAE policymakers, strategists, and government leaders by providing a knowledge base derived from over 450 global sources and contributions from more than 2,500 international experts.
The agreement in Davos was signed by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, alongside Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and President of WEF. The signatories included Huda Al Hashimi, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategy Affairs, and Stefan Mergenthaler, Head of Strategic Intelligence and a Member of the Executive Committee at WEF.
The "We the UAE 2031 Strategic Intelligence Councils" will focus on identifying global trends that can expedite the realization of the four pillars of the "We the UAE 2031" initiative. Al Hashimi emphasized, “Strategic intelligence is essential for formulating policies and strategies that enhance the government's readiness for the future and its agility, in line with the visions of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai."
She further stated that the councils represent a platform for institutionalizing a culture of strategic planning that harnesses technology, innovation, knowledge, data, and partnerships. The UAE Government's collaboration with WEF exemplifies a successful model for cooperation between governments and international organizations.
The councils will consist of eight specialized groups, including decision-makers, thought leaders, experts, government officials, and business leaders. These councils are: the Strategic Council for Driving FDI in Future Sectors, the Strategic Council for Quantum Economy, the Strategic Council for the Future of Work and Reskilling, the Strategic Council for Lifelong Learning, the Strategic Council for Green Economy Solutions, the Strategic Council for Employing Health Technology, the Strategic Council for Empowering Social Innovation, and the Strategic Council for Trade Technology.
The 2024 Annual Meeting of Global Future Councils features 30 councils and brings together over 500 participants from 80 countries, including experts, thought leaders, futurists, senior government officials, business leaders, academics, and representatives from research institutions and civil society organizations. These councils focus on five primary sectors: technology and artificial intelligence, environment and climate, governance, economy and finance, and society.
The Global Future Councils aim to unite thought leaders from various sectors, fostering innovation to a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.
