emirates7 - Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), reaffirmed that Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, have been central to the UAE’s foreign policy since the nation was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
He emphasized that the UAE, driven by a sense of fraternal duty, consistently supports Arab rights on the global stage and continues to advocate for the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Ghobash made these remarks during his participation, alongside a delegation from the UAE Parliamentary Division, at the 37th extraordinary conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. The conference was held on the sidelines of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, and was chaired by Ibrahim Boughali, President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and the National People's Assembly of Algeria, with several other parliamentary leaders and Arab delegations also in attendance.
Ghobash further highlighted that since the onset of the Gaza war a year ago, and amid the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, the UAE has been actively providing essential relief and medical aid. He noted that this support has been carried out under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and under the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The UAE's efforts have accounted for over 40 percent of the total global aid provided to support the Palestinian and Lebanese people during these critical times.
