UAE parliamentary delegation to attend 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva

emirates7 - Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), will lead the UAE Parliamentary Division at the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 214th session of the IPU Governing Council, which will take place at the IPU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 13th to 17th.

The assembly will bring together around 700 parliamentarians to discuss the theme “Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation for a More Peaceful and Sustainable Future.”

Ghobash is also scheduled to attend the 37th extraordinary conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union on October 15th, which will be held at the Geneva International Conference Centre. The conference will include the heads of Arab parliaments and will focus on recent developments in Palestine and Lebanon.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Arab Group’s representative in the IPU, will participate in the IPU Executive Committee and Financial Committee meetings on October 11th and 12th. These meetings will address the approval of the IPU’s budget and proposed amendments to its statutes.

During the General Assembly, discussions will take place on requests to add emergency items to the agenda, review standing committee reports, and consider proposed amendments to the union's statutes and rules. The council will also monitor the implementation of previous IPU decisions and resolutions.

Additionally, the Governing Council will review the progress of the task force examining proposed changes to the IPU’s statutes and will aim to approve them, along with endorsing the 2025 unified budget.
