emirates7 - The Year of Sustainability, under its theme "Plan to Action," has announced a range of public events and activities focused on four key areas: green transportation, reducing water and energy use, responsible consumption, and smart planting. These on-ground events, aimed at both individuals and organizations across the UAE, seek to amplify the environmental impact through collective action.
Running from October to the end of the year, these initiatives encourage sustainable practices throughout the country. Rauda Al Falasi, Deputy Project Lead for the Year of Sustainability, emphasized the importance of collective action for successful sustainability efforts. She highlighted that both individuals and organizations have crucial roles in creating a sustainable future, with the initiative targeting sustainability challenges through small daily habits and broader commitments to foster lasting change.
Key upcoming events include:
Duroor Nights: In collaboration with Sadeem Astronomy and the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology, this event merges ancient Duroor techniques with modern stargazing. Participants will gather on a moonless night for stargazing and to explore the Cosmic Cube, with an indoor session in Abu Dhabi and an outdoor camping session in Sharjah.
From Farm to Haseer: A hands-on experience promoting sustainability through local farming and traditional crafts. Activities include farm tours, workshops, butter-making, cooking with locally-sourced ingredients, herb planting, and community discussions, with a focus on the importance of planting wisely.
Mangrove Champions: A series of events focused on planting and cleaning up mangroves across the UAE, which play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions and protecting coastlines from erosion and natural disasters like flooding.
