UAE plays incredible role in global trade, says WTO Deputy Director-General

emirates7 - Johanna Hill, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), emphasized the importance of UAE investments in sectors such as services, artificial intelligence (AI), digital services, sustainable development, and the green economy. She pointed out that these investments are set to significantly shape the UAE’s future economy.

Speaking to Emirates News Agency (WAM) during the fourth Global Trade and Supply Chain Summit in Dubai, organized by Economist Impact in partnership with the New Economy Academy, Hill commended the UAE’s active role in global trade. She noted that the trade agreements signed by the UAE with various nations highlight its dedication to this cause.

Hill also praised the UAE’s hosting of the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) in Abu Dhabi, viewing it as a clear indication of the country’s commitment to strengthening the global trade system. She explained that the UAE’s strategic approach positions it to capitalize on emerging opportunities within the evolving global trade landscape.

Sharing the WTO's trade growth projections, Hill noted that, after a 1.4 percent decline in merchandise trade last year, global trade is expected to grow by 2.6 percent this year and 3.3 percent in 2025. She also highlighted that services trade had grown by 9 percent last year, signaling a positive outlook for the coming years.
