The agenda included updates to the National Biosecurity Framework, monitoring global biological risks and threats, and the implementation of preventive measures within the country.
The meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Defense, was chaired by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE). In her opening remarks, she praised the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in supporting the UAE's objectives toward comprehensive and sustainable national biosafety and biosecurity.
Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the importance of monitoring emerging biological risks and zoonotic diseases worldwide, emphasizing the UAE's commitment to addressing these threats through a robust legislative framework, including laws and regulations. She also mentioned ongoing projects and initiatives under the National Biosecurity Framework aimed at tackling any new global biological challenges.
She stressed the key role of the National Committee for Biosecurity in ensuring the implementation of recommendations and taking appropriate actions, especially in light of the current global situation.
The meeting focused on several issues, including updates on the National Framework for Biological Security 2023-2032, mitigating the effects of weather conditions on public health, the Anti-Mosquito Campaign, and aligning with the latest biological security guidelines issued by MoCCAE.
Representatives from the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Office of Weapons and Hazardous Materials, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, PureHealth, Dubai Municipality, and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi attended the meeting.
