UAE participates at meeting of BRICS Ministers of Energy in Russia

emirates7 - The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), participated in the BRICS Ministers of Energy meeting held in Moscow, Russia.

During the meeting, Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, emphasized that the UAE’s involvement reflects its dedication to multilateral cooperation as a crucial tool for addressing energy security challenges and creating a more sustainable future.

Al Olama stated, "As a BRICS member, the UAE aims to play a leading role in collective climate action, recognizing that international collaboration is key to overcoming shared energy challenges and adopting innovative solutions."

He also referenced COP28, noting that it resulted in the "UAE Consensus," a bold response to the global review of climate change efforts. This consensus offers a roadmap for climate action up to 2030 and sets the stage for significant, rapid, and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions through nationally determined approaches.

Al Olama highlighted that the UAE remains at the forefront of renewable energy expansion, focusing on accelerating progress without sacrificing grid stability or security. By fostering stronger cooperation between regulators and the industry, the UAE is poised to surpass its renewable energy goals, reinforcing its leadership in the global energy transition.

He concluded by reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to advancing the energy transition at the necessary scale and speed to meet climate goals and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
