emirates7 - Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE's largest industrial company outside of the oil and gas sector, announced today that over 110 women have joined the company since Emirati Women’s Day 2023, including 67 Emirati nationals.
EGA now employs over 550 women across the UAE, with more than 195 of them working in operations. The company has set a target for women to hold 25 percent of supervisory roles by 2025, up from the current 20 percent, and to fill 15 percent of all positions by 2026.
In celebration of Emirati Women’s Day, EGA launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing gender diversity across the UAE's industrial sector. The initiative, called "Break the Mould," seeks to inspire young women interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to follow the path of pioneering women who have made significant contributions to the UAE's industrial landscape.
The UAE is one of the few countries worldwide where more women than men graduate in STEM fields.
Abdulnasser bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, stated, "At EGA and within the UAE’s industrial sector, pioneering women are making remarkable contributions and inspiring others to follow. Emirati Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate their achievements in our industry and our nation. We believe that diversity enhances business performance, and we are dedicated to creating more opportunities for women and inspiring the next generation of female leaders and innovators in the UAE."
On Emirati Women’s Day, EGA’s Women’s Network held an event for all female employees to highlight the progress made and discuss ways to further accelerate gender diversity.
In 2022, EGA opened its longstanding National Training programs for frontline industrial roles to women for the first time. In the first full year after this change, women comprised about 20 percent of new participants.
Last year, EGA also launched the Challenger Programme, which unites leading industrial companies to address shared challenges and accelerate progress in promoting gender diversity.
EGA is a signatory of the United Nations' Women’s Empowerment Principles and is committed to fostering gender diversity throughout its operations, while also advocating for the role of women in both industry and society.
