emirates7 - During the first half of this year, Sharjah Charity International (SCI) allocated AED84.3 million to aid programs within the UAE. This expenditure included AED6.7 million for monthly assistance, AED31.2 million for seasonal initiatives, and AED39.6 million for lump-sum aid, as detailed in a report from the Department of Excellence and Strategic Planning.
Abdullah bin Khadim, Executive Director of SCI, highlighted that internal aid is a core focus for the organization, aiming to enhance beneficiaries' happiness, stability, family unity, and loyalty. Notably, the AED39.6 million in one-time aid included AED15 million for medical expenses, benefiting 743 patients with critical conditions such as viral hepatitis, cancer, and kidney failure. This support covered essential treatments including liver transplants, heart surgeries, eye surgeries, caesarean sections, and prosthetics. SCI relies on charitable donations to meet these vital needs.
Additionally, AED8.3 million was allocated for housing assistance to 906 beneficiaries. This support addressed home repairs, provided essential appliances and furniture, and helped settle overdue rent and utility bills for those facing financial difficulties.
Educational aid totaled AED4.8 million, covering tuition fees and supplying tablets to over 680 students from low-income families. The association also helped 1,100 individuals secure their release from penal and correctional facilities by paying off their debts in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Monthly cash assistance amounted to AED6.7 million, supporting orphans, widows, divorcees, and individuals who have lost their livelihoods. This aid, typically provided for six months and renewable based on family needs, aims to improve living conditions and stability.
Seasonal aid reached AED31.2 million, including the Ramadan campaign "Joud," which supported Iftar projects, Ramadan provisions, Zakat Al-Fitr, Zakat Al-Mal, and Eid clothing. The Winter campaign provided winter clothes and blankets to workers, recognizing their contributions to the nation.
Through its "Feeding Food" project, SCI distributed meals to needy and low-income individuals across the UAE, costing AED3.2 million. This initiative included Iftar, expiation, oath and vow fulfilments, Aqeeqah, and feeding the poor.
The association also invested AED3.4 million in community participation programs, enhancing partnerships with other institutions and improving the quality of services provided to the public. This support was crucial for organizations operating within a humanitarian framework aligned with SCI’s mission.
