emirates7 - A team of trained dogs has been assisting in rescuing people from drowning at a popular beach in southern Spain, using their towing power, swimming stamina, and ability to detect currents.
Wearing special life vests, these dogs—primarily Labrador and Newfoundland breeds—patrol Levante Beach near Malaga alongside their handlers, who they also accompany on jet skis and rescue boats.
"They can detect sea currents that humans cannot," said dog trainer Miguel Sanchez.
These dogs possess greater strength and endurance than most humans. Newfoundland dogs can swim up to three nautical miles (5.6 km) and tow life rafts weighing up to three metric tons or carrying six people, while Labradors can drag 2.4 tons and use their keen sense of smell to locate missing individuals.
