emirates7 - The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) has launched a series of strategic initiatives as part of its "Know Your Rights" awareness campaign, coinciding with Human Rights Day 2024 under the theme "Our Rights, Our Future. Right Now." These efforts aim to raise awareness and promote engagement with human rights principles across various sectors.
A key initiative is the "Knowledge Lab," a series of seminars designed to educate NHRI employees on essential human rights topics. The first session, titled "Introduction to Human Rights and International Human Rights Law," will be led by Dr. Ahmed Al Mansoori, a member of the NHRI Board of Trustees.
Additionally, the NHRI is collaborating with the Geneva Centre for Human Rights and Global Dialogue (GCHRAGD) to host a panel discussion on 11th December as part of the Centre's Human Rights Awareness Week 2024. The panel, titled "The Role of NHRIs in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights," will feature prominent speakers, including Maqsoud Kruse, NHRI Chairperson, and Dr. Umesh Palwankar, Executive Director of GCHRAGD.
Kruse highlighted the importance of raising awareness about human rights issues aligned with NHRI’s strategic priorities, which focus on labor rights, women and children’s rights, rights of people with disabilities (People of Determination), and the right to health and mental health. He noted that these events reflect NHRI's commitment to fostering collaboration and continuous dialogue on human rights at both national and international levels, aiming to improve awareness and share best practices in the field.
Looking to 2025, the NHRI plans to expand its initiatives, including launching "Manabir," a series of educational human rights episodes on YouTube, "Rights Journal," a semi-annual digital publication, and "Human Rights Oasis," a recurring forum for engaging with civil society. In addition, ongoing programs such as "Legislation Lab" and "Knowledge Lab" will continue to serve as key platforms for advancing human rights education and dialogue.
