Moon Village Association partners with UAE for flagship 2025 events

emirates7 - The Moon Village Association (MVA), a non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering international collaboration for the development of the lunar economy, has unveiled a groundbreaking partnership with the UAE to establish the Moon Village Centre in Abu Dhabi.

As part of this partnership, Abu Dhabi will host the main event for next year’s International Moon Day in July and serve as the venue for the MVA’s 9th Annual Workshop and Symposium in November 2025. This collaboration highlights the UAE’s expanding influence in the global space sector and its commitment to advancing space innovation and diplomacy.

The announcement, made during the 8th Annual MVA Workshop and Symposium in Luxembourg, coincided with the UAE’s celebrations of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad.

International Moon Day, a United Nations-designated observance held annually on July 20, commemorates humanity's first moon landing in 1969. Originally proposed by the MVA, the day celebrates lunar exploration achievements by all nations and raises awareness about sustainable Moon exploration and utilization. Plans for the 2025 celebrations include a flagship event in Abu Dhabi and smaller events spanning six continents.

The MVA Workshop and Symposium, held annually, brings together space agencies, governments, industries, policymakers, and experts to discuss the exploration and sustainable use of the Moon. It provides a platform for sharing progress, innovative ideas, and strategies to ensure humanity's peaceful and permanent presence on the lunar surface.

Dr. Giuseppe Reibaldi, President of the MVA, emphasized the UAE’s pivotal role, stating, “With its rapidly advancing space programme, the UAE is set to play a key role in shaping humanity’s future activities on the Moon.”

Dr. Nasr Al-Sahhaf, Chair of the UN International Moon Day, praised Abu Dhabi's efforts, saying, “The Moon belongs to no one yet inspires everyone. I am thrilled by the scale of Abu Dhabi’s plans for 2025. Having previously hosted this event in the USA, Korea, China, and Germany, the UAE is now a strategic partner in engaging global citizens.”

Dr. Salem bin Abdullah Alwahshi, CEO of the Emirates Council for Work Relations Development, reflected on the UAE's selection, remarking, “It’s an honor to host these flagship events. The vision of the Moon Village aligns closely with the values of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who championed opportunity, progress, and improved quality of life.”
