Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, attended the ceremony honoring the winners of the fourth edition of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management in the Arab Region, as well as the third edition of the Arab Cultural Heritage Award for Young Artists. The event took place at the ICCROM in Sharjah.
Aruna Francesca Maria Gujral, Director General of ICCROM, expressed her gratitude to H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah for his ongoing support of ICCROM’s regional activities and his patronage of the award, which highlights outstanding projects dedicated to preserving cultural heritage in the Arab region. Gujral emphasized that the award not only recognizes technical expertise but also celebrates the intangible contributions that support cultural identities and community life.
Nasser Al Darmaki, Deputy Director of ICCROM Regional Centre in Sharjah, highlighted the importance of cultural heritage as a bridge between the past and the present, linking communities through shared history. He noted the impressive participation in the current edition of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award, with numerous exceptional projects focused on preserving and restoring cultural heritage across the region.

Sheikh Sultan reviewed a video presentation showcasing the final-stage projects in various categories before honoring the winners of the third edition of the Arab Cultural Heritage Award for Young Artists. In the drawing category, first place went to Saud Shahil Zamel Al Shahil and Fahd Shahil Zamel Al Shahil from Saudi Arabia. Other top winners in drawing, photography, folkloric dance, and awareness film categories came from across the Arab world, including Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Iraq, and Lebanon.
The winning project of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices was the Cultural Heritage Management Project in Libya (MaLiCH), which focuses on community collaboration in preserving the cultural heritage of the Ghadames area. Five additional projects received special distinction for their efforts in heritage conservation, including those in Palestine, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Sharjah.
The Ruler of Sharjah also visited an exhibition displaying the top works from the awards, where he learned about the projects and efforts of the participants.
