emirates7 - The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure participated in the 16th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, held on Wednesday in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity, Water, and Future Energy Sector, led the UAE delegation at the meeting.
In his remarks, Al Kaabi outlined the UAE’s initiatives to address water scarcity, including the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, innovative programmes for balancing water supply and demand, the adoption of advanced desalination technologies, and the reuse of treated water. He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting Arab and global efforts to tackle water scarcity, enhance water security, and achieve sustainable development objectives.
The council also reviewed the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, which focuses on addressing global water scarcity by fostering the development and implementation of innovative technologies while promoting awareness of this critical issue on the international stage.
Additionally, the meeting underscored the significance of the upcoming United Nations Water Conference, which the UAE and Senegal will co-host in December 2026. The conference is set to accelerate progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6, centered on water and sanitation.
