emirates7 - The New York University Abu Dhabi Institute recently honored the recipients of the Dhikhr Award, which acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to preserving the UAE's history and culture.
Launched to coincide with Eid Al Etihad, the Dhikhr Award (meaning "treasure" in Arabic) celebrates efforts that enhance the UAE’s cultural and historical narrative. This year's recipients, Frauke Heard-Bey and the late David Heard, were recognized for their scholarly work and dedication, which have greatly influenced the understanding of the UAE’s history and development.
During a commemorative discussion, Zaki Nusseibeh, the UAE President’s Cultural Adviser, reflected on their lasting impact.

Pomerantz, Executive Director of the NYUAD Institute, stated, “The launch of this award during Eid Al Etihad highlights our role as a center for academic exchange, collaboration, and cultural preservation. Recognizing Frauke Heard-Bey and the late David Heard underscores the importance of safeguarding the UAE’s rich historical narrative.”
Nahed Ahmed, Head of Public Programming at the Institute and the award’s creator, expressed the personal significance of the recognition: “The Dhikhr Award is a meaningful way to honor those who have documented our nation’s history. The Institute’s role as a scholarly hub makes it the ideal place to celebrate these contributions.”
Since its inception in 2008, the NYUAD Institute has become a leading venue for intellectual exploration, hosting over 1,500 conferences, lectures, and public events, and welcoming more than 1,000 speakers from around the world.
