National Centre of Meteorology, RAK International Airport sign strategic partnership

emirates7 - The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has entered into a strategic partnership with Ras Al Khaimah International Airport to provide advanced meteorological services aimed at enhancing aviation safety and operational efficiency.

This collaboration seeks to improve the airport’s performance through precise and detailed weather monitoring, while also strengthening its ability to manage climatic challenges that could affect air traffic.

The agreement was formalized at the airport’s headquarters, with Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director-General of the NCM, and Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, representing their respective organizations.

Both leaders expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential to boost the aviation sector’s competitiveness within the emirate and elevate Ras Al Khaimah International Airport’s status as an emerging global gateway.

As the sole authorized entity mandated to deliver meteorological services across the UAE, in line with Federal Decree-Law No. (6) of 2007 and its amendments, the NCM plays a crucial role in supporting aviation through integrated services. These include accurate forecasts, real-time weather updates, and warnings about sudden atmospheric changes.

The services under this agreement are designed to optimize aviation safety, streamline flight operations, and comply with international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), as well as the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

Dr. Al Mandous highlighted the NCM's commitment to delivering innovative, internationally-aligned meteorological solutions, positioning the UAE as a leader in civil aviation. He emphasized that the agreement represents a significant step forward in ensuring aviation safety and operational excellence at RAK Airport, contributing to the sustainability of the aviation sector.

Sheikh Al Qasimi emphasized that superior meteorological services will enhance the airport's capabilities, support its expansion, and reinforce its role as a major global connection point. He noted that this partnership aligns with Ras Al Khaimah’s broader goals of sustainable economic and tourism growth.
