Noor Dubai concludes blindness prevention camp in Nigeria

emirates7 - Noor Dubai Foundation has successfully concluded its blindness prevention camp in Nigeria, providing diagnostic, therapeutic, and healthcare services to 1,742 patients with eye conditions. The camp also facilitated 207 surgeries, distributed 330 pairs of eyeglasses, and issued 223 medical prescriptions. This camp marks the second such initiative in Nigeria, part of Noor Dubai’s ongoing efforts to combat blindness and visual impairments by offering free eye exams and surgeries to those in need.

Dr. Manal Omran Taryam, Member of the Board of Trustees and CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation, celebrated the camp’s success, which was held in collaboration with DP World Foundation at Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja. Nigeria, with a population of 206 million, faces significant challenges in eye health, with an estimated 24 million people suffering from visual impairments, including 1.3 million blind individuals.

Dr. Taryam also highlighted the achievements of Noor Dubai's four-year program in Katsina State, which included upgrading three hospitals to specialized eye disease treatment centers, enhancing 250 primary healthcare centers, and performing 12,000 surgeries and 25,000 consultations with free treatments. The program also focused on improving school health services for students and teachers.

Latifa Al Qemzi, Director General of DP World Foundation, expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the eye camp. She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to improving healthcare in underserved regions and underscored their partnership with Noor Dubai Foundation as part of their mission to lasting social impact.

Together, Noor Dubai Foundation and DP World Foundation are making a meaningful difference in the lives of many Nigerians, restoring sight and improving the quality of life for communities in need.
