Emirati women take lead at COP29, shape global climate action

In comments to Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), commended the strong presence of Emirati women, which is supported by the UAE leadership and the continuous efforts of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (Mother of the Nation). Sheikha Fatima, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union and other influential roles, has been instrumental in encouraging women's participation in international forums.

Dr. Alanoud Alhaj, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Green Development and Climate Change sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), highlighted her work on the UAE's Net Zero strategy, developed in collaboration with various sectors. She noted the ongoing leadership of the UAE in driving climate action, which was evident during COP28 with the historic "UAE Consensus."

Amal Abdulrahim, Chief AI Officer at MOCCAE, emphasized the significant representation of women in the UAE delegation at COP29, reflecting the leadership's trust in their capabilities.

Hiba Obaid Al Shehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Biodiversity and Marine Life Sector at MOCCAE, highlighted the essential role of women in biodiversity conservation and climate efforts, with Emirati women leading over 70% of the ministry's biodiversity sector.
