RAK Ruler offers educational insight to students at Chinese university talk

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, emphasized the long-term benefits of investing in education during his visit to Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. He stated that investing in the education of future generations offers lifelong returns, which are crucial for fostering prosperity and development. He highlighted that a strong education system, particularly at the university level, is key to advancing society and achieving the growth and prosperity sought in the UAE.

The visit, attended by Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to China, and Mariam Alshamsi, UAE Consul-General in Guangzhou, is part of a four-day trip to Guangdong. Sheikh Saud expressed hope that his visit would spark greater collaboration between higher education institutions in Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong.

Sun Yat-sen University, ranked among the top 100 universities globally and 5th in China, hosted Sheikh Saud and his delegation. The visit also included cultural activities, business meetings, and the signing of a cooperation agreement between Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong Province. The university, with over 67,000 students and 18,000 faculty members, has existing partnerships with institutions in the UAE, such as Gulf Medical University in Ajman and UAE University.

Guangdong, with a population of over 126 million and a GDP of $1.9 trillion (AED 6.98 trillion) in 2023, is China’s largest economy. It is a significant manufacturing hub with key sectors including electronics, automotive, textiles, pharmaceuticals, high-tech industries, finance, and real estate.
