UAE Delegation Engages in Key Discussions on Second Day of 79th UN General Assembly

emirates7 - The United Arab Emirates’ delegation actively participated in several high-level meetings on the second day of the 79th UN General Assembly (UNGA). H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted various bilateral and multilateral discussions attended by heads of state, government officials, and representatives from international organizations.

Key topics included humanitarian aid delivery, climate change, global health, and conflict resolution through peaceful means. Notably, at the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, the UAE announced its membership, becoming the first country in the MENA region to join the panel, with Razan Al Mubarak representing the nation.

Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, met with Tim Lenderking, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, and Geir Pedersen, the UN Special Envoy for Syria. Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs for Development Affairs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Colombia to donate a hospital aimed at reducing child and maternal mortality due to malnutrition.

Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, participated in discussions on sea level rise and global plastic pollution. Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, took part in events focused on peace in Sudan and business initiatives in Africa.

Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State, and Dr. Maha Barakat, Assistant Minister for Medical Affairs, attended the Leaders’ Summit of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, where the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to combatting this crisis and announced a new initiative with Canada.

Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, joined joint meetings between the US and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, while Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh met with international officials to strengthen collaboration.

Sultan Al Shamsi also engaged with the Group of 77 and China, and Omran Sharaf delivered remarks at the Digital for Sustainable Development event.

Dr. Barakat participated in dialogues focused on equitable immunization and health policy. Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, discussed climate finance reforms, and Salem Al Jaberi, Assistant Minister for Security and Military Affairs, attended the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism.

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan Al Nahyan, President and CEO of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators, met with several CEOs to enhance international cooperation.
