Sharjah Chamber wraps up trade mission to India

emirates7 - The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), through the Sharjah Exports Development Centre (SEDC), successfully wrapped up the second leg of its trade mission to India with a series of high-level business meetings and discussions in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Held alongside the Business Forum hosted by the Chamber in Ahmedabad, the visit focused on identifying opportunities to enhance economic cooperation and expand industrial and investment ties between the Emirati and Indian private sectors.

The forum brought together prominent figures including Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI; Waleed AbdelRahman BuKhatir, Second Vice Chairman; and Board Member Jamal Mohamed Sultan Binhuwaidin, in addition to several SCCI staff members. It also attracted a broad range of business leaders, entrepreneurs, and private sector representatives from Sharjah and Ahmedabad—one of India’s leading industrial hubs.

The forum’s agenda featured targeted B2B sessions and presentations spotlighting strategic investment prospects across various sectors in both cities. Particular attention was given to Sharjah’s investor-friendly landscape, highlighting its state-of-the-art infrastructure and comprehensive incentive schemes. The Chamber also showcased its extensive support offerings designed to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses and access international markets.

In his keynote address, Al Owais emphasized that the Sharjah–India Business Forum in Ahmedabad is part of ongoing efforts to deepen the flourishing trade and economic ties between the UAE and India. He pointed out that Indian exports to the UAE reached approximately US$37.1 billion in 2024, and that India emerged as the UAE’s top non-oil export destination, accounting for 13.5% of total exports—a 75.2% increase from 2023.

Al Owais stated that the mission aims to turn this momentum into meaningful partnerships between the business sectors of both countries—particularly between Sharjah and Ahmedabad—fostering joint economic and investment growth.

He also underscored Sharjah’s appeal as a prime location for Indian investors, noting that over 20,000 Indian firms are now based in the emirate, reflecting strong investor confidence. He praised Ahmedabad’s status as one of India’s most dynamic industrial centers, adding that its businesses could benefit significantly from Sharjah’s robust industrial infrastructure, which hosts more than 35% of the UAE’s total manufacturing capacity.

To conclude the visit, the Sharjah delegation toured several key economic institutions in Ahmedabad, engaging in discussions on mutual cooperation, industrial synergy, knowledge exchange, and the implementation of best practices. These visits aimed to lay the groundwork for promising investment partnerships that align with the development goals of both regions.
