emirates7 - The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced that UAE citizens can now renew their passports up to one year before the expiry date, doubling the previous six-month renewal window.

The directive, issued by Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the ICP, permits renewal when a passport has one year or less remaining on its validity. The updated service will be available starting Monday, August 18, 2025, via the Authority’s smart services platform.

Al Shamsi said the move will enhance citizens’ quality of life by allowing them to plan international travel earlier, complete official procedures smoothly, and make greater use of secure digital documents. He emphasised that it reflects the Authority’s commitment to delivering proactive, world-class government services.

He also highlighted that the UAE passport retains its position as the world’s most powerful, reliable, and widely recognised travel document. This decision, he noted, will further strengthen its global reputation and reinforce the UAE’s passport issuance and renewal system as a regional and international benchmark.
