emirates7 - The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) convened its regular meeting on Tuesday, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Council. Also in attendance was H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Council. The meeting was held at the Ruler's Office.

During the session, the Council reviewed a range of key issues, with a strong focus on enhancing the performance and oversight of government departments and institutions in Sharjah. Discussions also centered on developmental plans aimed at improving the quality of services provided to residents across the emirate.

A significant decision made during the meeting was the transfer of the elderly transportation service from the Sharjah Police to the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD). This service, which caters to the needs of senior citizens, aligns with Sharjah’s ongoing commitment to community welfare. Under the new arrangement, all associated responsibilities, rights, assets, and resources will be transferred to the SSSD.

The Council also reviewed the Sharjah Economic Development Department’s 2024 performance report, which highlighted notable achievements. The department recorded a 6% increase in the issuance of new business licences and a 7% rise in total licences and renewals. Revenue also saw an 11% growth compared to the previous year.

The report detailed the types of licences issued and provided insights into activities tied to those licences. It also addressed key elements such as the National Licence Index, guidelines for foreign ownership, and commercial protection efforts. Furthermore, it outlined improvements made in customer service, including upgraded digital platforms, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and staff development initiatives.

Additionally, the Council reviewed a report on Sharjah’s celebrations for the UAE’s 53rd Union Day. The report covered various events hosted throughout the emirate, highlighting efforts in public engagement through decorations, media campaigns, social media activity, radio promotions, and interactive workshops.

Special attention was given to the main celebration site at Sharjah National Park, which attracted over 188,000 visitors. The festivities featured contributions from 15 government entities, 40 local families selling traditional goods, 20 food trucks, and a dedicated area for heritage cuisine—reflecting Sharjah’s rich cultural legacy and its appeal as a tourism destination.
