emirates7 - Silal, Abu Dhabi’s leading agri-tech and food company, has entered into a Musataha agreement with KEZAD Group, the largest operator of integrated economic zones in Abu Dhabi, to launch two innovative AgTech projects in Al Ain Industrial City. The announcement was made at the Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition (ADIFE), with both initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable farming and local food production.
The first project, in partnership with Iyris, a global leader in sustainable agri-climate technology, involves a state-of-the-art indoor farming facility covering 50,000 square meters—equivalent to 10 football fields. Focused on producing premium berries, this venture tackles the challenge of growing high-quality produce in the UAE’s desert climate and reflects Silal’s dedication to enhancing local food production, reducing dependency on imports, and advancing agricultural technology.
The second initiative is a large-scale controlled-environment agriculture project spanning 100,000 square meters. It aims to cultivate high-value crops using advanced methods that significantly cut water usage, minimize carbon emissions, and maximize yields throughout the year. This project aligns with the UAE's objectives for food sustainability and environmental protection while reducing reliance on food imports.
Silal’s CEO, Salmeen Alameri, emphasized the transformative impact of these initiatives, stating that they are designed to enhance the UAE’s agricultural sector by integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. These projects are expected to contribute to food security and strengthen the country’s self-sufficiency goals.
Abdullah Al Hameli, CEO of Economic Cities & Free Zones at AD Ports Group, highlighted the strategic significance of the partnership, noting that it aligns with the UAE’s vision for food security. He emphasized that this collaboration sets a global standard for agricultural innovation and excellence.
