Che Guevara

emirates7 - Ernesto "Che" Guevara was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerrilla leader, diplomat, and military theorist. A prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution, his iconic image has become a global symbol of rebellion and counterculture.

As a young medical student, Guevara traveled across South America, where he was deeply troubled by the poverty, hunger, and disease he encountered. This experience fueled his desire to combat what he perceived as the capitalist exploitation of Latin America by the United States. His political activism began in Guatemala under President Jacobo Árbenz, whose CIA-assisted overthrow—instigated by the United Fruit Company—shaped Guevara's political beliefs. In Mexico City, he met Raúl and Fidel Castro, joined their 26th of July Movement, and traveled to Cuba aboard the Granma yacht to overthrow the US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. Guevara quickly rose to prominence among the insurgents, becoming second-in-command and playing a crucial role in the two-year guerrilla campaign that toppled the Batista regime.

Ernesto Guevara was born on June 14, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina, to Ernesto Guevara Lynch and Celia de la Serna y Llosa. While his birth certificate lists him simply as "Ernesto Guevara," his name often includes "de la Serna" and/or "Lynch."

He died on October 9, 1967, at the age of 39.
