EMSTEEL recognised as ‘worldsteel Sustainability Champion’ for 2nd consecutive year

emirates7 - EMSTEEL has been named a 2025 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), making it the only company in the Middle East and North Africa to receive the honor for the second year in a row.

The award was presented during worldsteel’s Special General Meeting in Sydney, Australia. Now in its eighth year, the Steel Sustainability Champion title—part of the Steelie Awards—recognizes steel producers that outstanding dedication to sustainability and responsible practices within the global steel sector.

EMSTEEL earned the accolade for its notable sustainability advancements throughout 2024, including a 23 percent reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions intensity. By the end of 2023, the company’s combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions totaled 4.5 million tonnes of CO₂—marking a major milestone in its pursuit of net-zero emissions.

Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Group CEO of EMSTEEL, expressed pride in the recognition, calling it a testament to the team's collective effort and commitment. “This award highlights our determination to lead the steel industry—and the broader industrial sector—towards a low-carbon future,” he said.

He also noted EMSTEEL’s pioneering role as the first steel manufacturer globally to capture a portion of its CO₂ emissions, allowing the company to operate with a carbon intensity 45 percent lower than the global industry average. He emphasized EMSTEEL’s ongoing mission to contribute significantly to the decarbonization of both the steel sector and its associated supply chains.
