Red alert issued for thick fog across the UAE; Abu Dhabi police warn drivers

emirates7 - A thick blanket of fog covered several areas across the UAE on Wednesday morning, prompting the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) to warn drivers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai of poor visibility on the roads.

Red and yellow alerts were issued, noting that varying intensities of fog would persist until 9 a.m., with visibility in some locations dropping below 1,000 meters.

In Dubai, fog was reported in Al Jaddaf, Al Aweer, Expo City, and around Khalifa Tower, while in Abu Dhabi it formed over Al Falah, Al Riyadh City, Bani Yas, and Al Shawamekh. Heavy fog was also seen along the Dubai–Abu Dhabi road and the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain road.

Abu Dhabi Police, in a post on X, urged motorists to drive cautiously amid low visibility, reminding them to adhere to the variable speed limits displayed on electronic boards to ensure safety.

As previously predicted this week, temperatures dipped on Wednesday, with early morning readings in coastal cities such as Dubai and Sharjah ranging between 30°C and 35°C.

Meanwhile, sea conditions were reported to be rough to very rough at times in the Arabian Gulf, and slight to moderate in the Oman Sea.
