emirates7 - TAQA Water Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the New Tashkent City Directorate to explore the development of a 65-kilometer raw water transmission pipeline and an advanced water treatment plant in New Tashkent City, Uzbekistan.
This marks TAQA Water Solutions' second major water infrastructure initiative in Uzbekistan, playing a key role in supporting the vision for a modern and sustainable New Tashkent City by ensuring a reliable supply of clean water for approximately two million residents.
The MoA signals the beginning of a critical phase in the project's development, granting TAQA Water Solutions an exclusive period to formulate a detailed proposal. This process will involve comprehensive technical and financial assessments to evaluate the project's feasibility and outline a sustainable, investment-ready solution.
The agreement was signed by Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, and Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate.
Upon completion, the project will deliver sustainable drinking water sourced from the Charvak Mountain Reservoir to residents of New Tashkent City. It will incorporate state-of-the-art water treatment technology to ensure the highest international standards of water quality.
The 65-kilometer pipeline will have the capacity to transport over 500,000 cubic meters of water daily, while also generating up to 20 megawatts of hydropower to maintain a steady and reliable supply of clean water. This infrastructure will be vital in supporting New Tashkent City’s ongoing growth by meeting both current and future water demands.
Ahmed Al Shamsi stated, "Following last year's success in spearheading the development of Tashkent's largest wastewater treatment plant, we are eager to conduct thorough evaluations and assessments for this new project. It will establish new benchmarks for sustainable resource management and contribute to the long-term prosperity of the New Tashkent City community."
Maksud Abbaskhanov added, "This project will provide New Tashkent’s residents with a reliable and sustainable water system, leveraging cutting-edge technology that has already proven its effectiveness in the UAE. TAQA Water Solutions and its expert engineers have an outstanding reputation, and I am confident that the strong collaboration we have built in recent months has laid a solid foundation for the next phases of development."
With an estimated investment of AED 2 billion, the project represents a commitment to the promising future and rapid expansion of New Tashkent City. By securing the city’s long-term water supply, it will drive economic growth and enhance the overall quality of life for the community.
Additionally, this initiative further strengthens the deepening bilateral ties between the UAE and Uzbekistan, underscoring both nations' shared dedication to sustainable development and economic advancement.
