Cirstea issues plea after trophy goes missing during US Open

emirates7 - Romania’s Sorana Cirstea has appealed for the return of her trophy from last week’s WTA tournament in Cleveland after it went missing from her hotel room during the US Open.

The 35-year-old clinched the Cleveland title — her third career singles crown — before advancing to the second round at Flushing Meadows, where she fell to 11th seed Karolina Muchova. She also competed in the women’s doubles alongside Anna Kalinskaya, with the pair exiting in the opening round.

Cirstea’s disappointment was compounded when she discovered the Cleveland trophy had vanished from her hotel room in New York. Taking to Instagram, the world No.71 wrote: “Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at the @fiftysonesta please give it back. It has no material value, only sentimental value. It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.”
