emirates7 - The UAE Cybersecurity Council has called on users of digital platforms and applications in the country to keep their devices regularly updated, stressing that smartphones, laptops, web browsers, routers, and smart home technologies are among the most vulnerable to cyberattacks, particularly when connected to open networks.

In remarks to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Council noted that rapidly evolving cyber threats make outdated systems prime targets for malware, data breaches, and network intrusions. It urged individuals to activate automatic updates on all devices to ensure continuous protection and swiftly address newly discovered security flaws.

The Council cautioned that failing to devices could lead to severe consequences, including malware infections, theft of personal or sensitive information, and unauthorized access to internal networks.

Cybersecurity specialists highlighted several simple but effective preventive measures, such as enabling automatic updates, regularly checking settings, installing security patches without delay, reviewing privacy configurations, and staying alert to unusual device activity.

The Council emphasized that consistent software updates remain the strongest defence against cyber risks, pointing out that most cyberattacks exploit known vulnerabilities that could easily be avoided with timely updates. It added, “Updates are more than technical enhancements; they are digital shields that protect systems against ever-evolving threats.”
