emirates7 - The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has announced the opening of submissions for the Sharjah International Book Fair Awards 2025, with entries accepted until 15th September.
These awards celebrate authors and publishers who have made significant contributions to Arab and international culture through literary and academic works.
Reflecting SBA’s and the Sharjah International Book Fair’s (SIBF) dedication to promoting knowledge and creativity, the awards align with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. They underscore Sharjah’s status as a major global center for publishing and the creative industries, while highlighting the emirate’s ongoing efforts to nurture literary and intellectual output locally, regionally, and internationally.
The awards are divided into four main categories: the Sharjah Award for Emirati Books, the Sharjah Award for the Best Arabic Novel, the Sharjah Award for the Best International Book, and the Sharjah Publisher Recognition Award, offering a total prize pool of AED 625,000.
The Sharjah Award for Emirati Books, which celebrates local literary and academic achievements, is split into four subcategories with a combined prize of AED 300,000. The Best Emirati Novel and Best Emirati Academic Book each receive AED100,000, while the Best Emirati Creative Literature Book (Theatrical Texts) and the Best Emirati First Novel are awarded AED50,000 each.
The Sharjah Award for the Best Arabic Novel, designed to honour excellence in Arabic fiction, offers AED150,000 to be shared equally between the author and the publisher. It recognises works that exhibit originality, creativity, and critical engagement with contemporary Arab world issues.
For English-language publications, the Sharjah Award for the Best International Book totals AED100,000 and is divided between two subcategories: Best International Fiction Book, which covers novels and stories, and Best International Non-Fiction Book.
The Sharjah Publisher Recognition Award, with a total value of AED75,000, recognises outstanding publishing efforts across three subcategories—Best Local Publisher House, Best Arab Publisher, and Best International Publisher—each receiving AED25,000.
SBA encourages authors, publishers, and creatives to apply for these awards, which continue to position Sharjah as a global hub for literature, publishing, and book culture. Applications are open until 15th September and must meet the eligibility criteria, which focus on contributions to literature and the publishing industry.
