Extreme heat up to 47°C, dusty winds, and rain showers expected

emirates7 - The UAE is preparing for a spell of extreme heat this week, with soaring temperatures prompting authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions.

AccuWeather forecasts that Dubai will face hazy sunshine and intense heat today, with highs of 42°C. Overnight conditions will remain very warm, dropping only to 34°C under mostly clear skies. In Abu Dhabi, temperatures are also expected to reach 42°C under partly cloudy skies, before dipping to 33°C at night. However, with a “real feel” of 41°C, the heat poses increased health risks.

Thursday is anticipated to bring even more dangerous conditions, leading to renewed public health warnings. Residents are strongly advised to remain indoors during peak hours, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), today’s weather will range from partly to mostly cloudy, with the possibility of convective clouds forming in eastern and southern areas, potentially resulting in isolated rainfall. Temperatures may soar to 47°C in interior regions and up to 45°C in coastal and island areas, while mountainous areas will still record highs of 30–36°C.

Winds from the southeast to northeast are expected to be light to moderate, occasionally strengthening to 35 km/h, raising blowing dust and reducing visibility in some locations.

Heat safety guidelines:

* Stay indoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
* Keep hydrated, even when not feeling thirsty
* Limit strenuous outdoor activity
* Check regularly on vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly
