UAE has built solid foundations for sustainable humanitarian work: Hamdan bin Zayed

emirates7 - H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), highlighted that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has established strong foundations for sustainable humanitarian work, making it a national priority and central to the country’s vision.

On the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on 19th August, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the UAE plays an active role in enhancing responses to humanitarian crises through innovative programs that offer sustainable solutions for community development.

He underscored that the UAE’s foreign humanitarian aid is a fundamental aspect of its international engagement, provided purely on humanitarian grounds, without any ethnic, religious, or sectarian considerations.

Sheikh Hamdan described World Humanitarian Day as an opportunity to reaffirm the UAE’s dedication to fostering global cooperation in humanitarian efforts, noting that the growing complexity of global challenges demands collective action and unified approaches among nations and communities.

He highlighted the UAE’s ongoing initiatives to combat poverty, hunger, and malnutrition, and to relieve suffering in countries facing humanitarian and development crises, particularly by supplying essential needs like food, which serve as the first defense against disease, displacement, and deprivation.

Referring to recent global reports, he noted that more than 305 million people across 72 countries require humanitarian assistance, and roughly 400 million children are living in conflict-affected areas.

Sheikh Hamdan called on the international community and UN agencies to strengthen partnerships, improve coordination, and intensify efforts on programs and initiatives that support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the eradication of poverty and hunger.

He also urged donor organizations to increase their support for specialized humanitarian institutions to help them meet rising demands amid current global economic challenges.

Finally, Sheikh Hamdan affirmed that the ERC has recently expanded its relief operations and enhanced its ability to respond to escalating humanitarian crises in several countries, guided by its mission and principles that prioritize human welfare and needs.
