Abu Dhabi sees 10.3% increase in certificates of origin, signalling expansion of non-oil exports

emirates7 - The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) has reported strong growth in the issuance of certificates of origin, underscoring the emirate’s expanding non-oil exports, the success of diversification efforts, and the strength of its external trade sector.

Between June 2024 and June 2025, the number of certificates of origin issued rose by 10.3 percent year-on-year, highlighting both the increasing number of local exporters and the diversification of Abu Dhabi’s economic activities.

This growth reflects the Chamber’s role in boosting private sector competitiveness and consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading regional hub for trade and investment. The rise in certificates indicates stronger export activity, with Abu Dhabi-based companies driving momentum and enhancing the emirate’s standing on the global trade map.

During the first half of 2025 alone, Abu Dhabi’s non-oil foreign trade surged by 34.7 percent. Non-oil exports jumped 64 percent, re-exports climbed 35 percent, and imports grew 15 percent—signaling the vitality of the emirate’s economy and its deepening trade links worldwide. These results build on last year’s solid performance, which saw non-oil trade up 9 percent, exports advancing 16 percent, re-exports growing 11 percent, and imports rising 3 percent.

ADCCI’s data that certificates of origin were issued across diverse sectors, with chemicals, metals, and engineering industries taking the lead—evidence of Abu Dhabi’s expanding industrial base and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) also recorded notable export growth, supported by the Chamber’s initiatives such as export training, matchmaking programs, and partnerships with global trade and investment bodies.

Commenting on the results, Shamis Al Dhaheri, Second Vice Chairman and Managing Director of ADCCI, said: “The continued rise in certificates of origin confirms the strength of Abu Dhabi’s export sector. It reflects the international competitiveness of our companies and their ability to seize new opportunities, establishing the emirate as a regional center for trade and manufacturing. It also shows the confidence of global markets in the quality of our products and services. We remain committed to supporting UAE non-oil exports, particularly SMEs, by providing advanced trade facilitation solutions that enable them to expand globally in a sustainable way.”

Al Dhaheri stressed that the Chamber will continue facilitating exports and opening new markets for companies through innovative services, strong partnerships, and effective representation of private sector interests. He noted that certificates of origin are crucial tools for accessing international markets, offering customs benefits through bilateral and multilateral agreements, and giving UAE exports a competitive advantage.

The Chamber underlined that these achievements support Abu Dhabi’s long-term economic vision of positioning non-oil trade as a key driver of sustainable growth. “These indicators reflect the trust of the business community in our services, and we reaffirm our commitment to advancing digital infrastructure and initiatives that serve Abu Dhabi’s economic aspirations. This will further strengthen the private sector’s global reach and resilience,” Al Dhaheri concluded.
