COP30 in Brazil: Agribusiness sector seeks to position itself as part of climate solution

emirates7 - Brazil’s agribusiness sector intends to position itself as a “key player” in tackling the climate crisis during the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag) said on Tuesday, as reported by Agência Brasil.

According to Abag, the sector is not only highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change but also has strong potential to be part of the solution, with the capacity to curb emissions and strengthen global food security.

The association views COP30, scheduled for November in Belém, Pará state, as a prime opportunity for Brazil to showcase leadership in low-carbon agriculture, capable of producing substantial carbon credits and attracting investment.

To achieve this, Abag emphasised the need for Brazil to present tangible progress in regulatory frameworks, technological innovations, methodologies, and registration systems that can be discussed and recognised globally.

It also highlighted that unlocking financing is crucial to enable such initiatives, calling for clear and transparent criteria that promote the adoption of sustainable technologies and practices.

The event is expected to gather around 50,000 participants from across the globe.
