July was Earth's third-hottest on record, scientists say

emirates7 - Scientists reported on Thursday that last month was the third-hottest July globally since records began, marked by extreme weather, including a new national temperature record in Türkiye, where temperatures hit 50.5°C (122.9°F).

Despite a pause in setting new global heat records, July maintained a pattern of severe climate conditions linked to human-driven climate change. Data from the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) showed that the average global surface air temperature for the month was 16.68°C — 0.45°C higher than the July average from 1991 to 2020.

“Although the recent streak of global temperature records has paused for now, it doesn't mean climate change has slowed down,” said C3S Director Carlo Buontempo. “The world is still experiencing the consequences of global warming, with July bringing extreme heatwaves and devastating floods.”
