Dubai Culture concludes participation in UNESCO Creative Cities Network meeting

emirates7 - The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has concluded its participation in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) subnetwork meeting, which serves as a platform for enhancing collaboration among cities that incorporate creativity into urban planning and development.

This involvement highlights Dubai Culture’s continued efforts to reinforce the emirate’s global reputation as a cultural leader, a hub for creative innovation, and a nurturing environment for talent.

At the meeting in Saint-Étienne, France, Khulood Khoory, Director of the Projects and Events Department at Dubai Culture, gave a presentation on innovative approaches to resource and material use. She detailed how Dubai is utilising local palm tree biomass to develop future materials, underscoring the city’s commitment to sustainable design, circular economy practices, and alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition to the meeting, Dubai participated in the 13th Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne, presenting works by Emirati designers such as “Ramel” by Kholoud Sharafi and “Tibrah” by Reema AlMheiri.

The city was also featured at the first Covilhã International Design Triennial in Portugal, where it showcased “Palm Repose,” a bench installation by architectural photographer Majid Al Bastaki, inspired by traditional agricultural landscapes.

Commenting on these events, Khulood emphasized that such global platforms elevate Dubai’s presence internationally and open doors for emerging and established creatives alike.
