emirates7 - Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has officially received the Energy Infrastructure Award, which DEWA earned at the esteemed 2024 S&P Global Platts Energy Awards for its work on the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
DEWA distinguished itself among over 1,000 leading global companies that applied for the award, becoming the first utility in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to win this prestigious recognition.
Organised by S&P Global Commodity Insights, the Platts Global Energy Awards are regarded as the "Oscars of the energy industry," celebrating outstanding achievements in areas such as sustainability, innovation, infrastructure, and technology. Held annually since 1999, the awards honour individuals and organisations that drive progress and transformation across the energy sector.
Commenting on the honour, Al Tayer said: “Inspired by the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE embraces excellence as a consistent and forward-looking strategy. Aligned with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050—which aim to produce 100% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2050—we remain focused on future readiness, innovation, and building sustainable infrastructure to support Dubai’s rapid growth.”
He added that receiving this award reflects DEWA’s leadership in renewable energy and innovation, and serves as recognition of the team's ongoing efforts and dedication.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the world’s largest single-site solar park developed under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. DEWA plans to expand its total generation capacity to 7,260 megawatts (MW) by 2030. Currently, the park has a production capacity of 3,860MW, utilising both photovoltaic and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. Notably, the park’s fourth phase has set four Guinness World Records.
