HYROX attracts over 3,500 athletes from 124 nationalities in Abu Dhabi

emirates7 - The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in partnership with HYROX and ADNEC Abu Dhabi, hosted the HYROX fitness race — the world’s largest indoor fitness competition and a major fitness event in the Middle East.

Held on Sunday, the event attracted 3,506 athletes from around the world, including 213 professionals. Women made up 41% of the participants, with the 30–35 age group being the most dominant.

Competitors represented 124 different nationalities, including 340 Emiratis. The UK had the highest number of participants at 24%, followed by the UAE at 9%, while Ireland and the Philippines each accounted for 5.25%.

The race format featured eight 1-kilometre runs, each followed by a functional fitness workout, combining endurance and strength challenges. Participants competed in various categories, including Individual (Men and Women), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Doubles Pro, Individual Pro, four-person Relays, and a dedicated division for People of Determination.

The competition began at 7:00 a.m. with the men’s category and continued throughout the day, ending with the men’s relay at 9:00 p.m. Award ceremonies started at 12:45 p.m. and concluded at 10:45 p.m., following the final event. The day-long event also attracted more than 12,000 spectators.

Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized that hosting HYROX in Abu Dhabi reflects the emirate’s commitment to fostering a culture of fitness and well-being through world-class, inclusive events. He noted that the initiative aligns with the "Year of the Community" national campaign, aimed at strengthening societal bonds.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group, added that the collaboration reinforces ADNEC’s efforts to support high-profile global events that promote health, wellness, and community engagement.
