Fifth Spartan World Championship to begin November 20 in Al Wathba

emirates7 - The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in collaboration with Spartan—the world’s leading brand in endurance and obstacle racing—has announced that the fifth edition of the Spartan World Championship will take place in Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba Desert from November 20th to 23rd.

Thousands of elite athletes and fitness enthusiasts are expected to take part in the four-day event, putting their strength, endurance, and speed to the test in a series of intense races.

The championship kicks off on Thursday, November 20th, with a special evening race exclusively for women. This 5-kilometre course includes 20 obstacles and will be held in two formats: an open race and a private race, the latter offering a fully female environment with no media presence to ensure complete privacy for participants.

Friday, November 21st, will feature a mixed-gender evening Sprint 5K race, also spanning 5 kilometres with 20 obstacles. This race invites both men and women to tackle the challenging Spartan course together.

Saturday, November 22nd, will host the Beast 21K World Championship, open to Elite, Age Group, and Open category participants. The course spans 21 kilometres and includes 30 obstacles. The day will also feature competitive races for children, with distances ranging from 1 to 3 kilometres.

The championship concludes on Sunday, November 23rd, with the Elite Teams World Championship—featuring teams of three (two men and one woman)—alongside the Super 10K Open and another Sprint 5K Open.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed that this year’s championship promises to be thrilling and physically demanding, continuing the success of previous editions. He noted that the event will also strengthen community participation by offering inclusive race options that cater to various fitness levels, in alignment with the "Year of the Community" initiative, which aims to promote active lifestyles across all segments of society.

Al Awani added, "Hosting the Spartan World Championship for the fifth year in a row reflects our dedication to promoting a culture of health and fitness, while further establishing Abu Dhabi as a premier global sports hub."

Spartan founder Joe De Sena also praised Abu Dhabi as an exceptional location for endurance events, highlighting the region's distinctive desert landscape as a compelling and challenging setting for one of the most exciting Spartan Championships to date.
