Spain allocates €200 million to support investments in Mauritania

emirates7 - On Wednesday, the Spanish government unveiled a €200 million financial package to strengthen its investments in Mauritania, alongside the launch of a new digital platform, “Kantara,” designed to facilitate direct connections between economic stakeholders from both nations.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the inaugural high-level meeting between Mauritania and Spain, which included the Mauritanian-Spanish Business Council. The event was attended by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

According to the Mauritanian Information Agency, the closing session saw various pledges and investment commitments made.

Prime Minister Sánchez stated that the €200 million package would support loans for green initiatives, feasibility assessments, risk mitigation tools, and resources for project implementation—particularly in the area of energy transition. He also revealed that Spain will appoint its first economic and trade envoy to Mauritania starting 1st September.

President El Ghazouani highlighted Mauritania’s vast potential for investment in strategic sectors such as fisheries, agriculture, livestock, extractive industries, infrastructure—including roads, bridges, airports, and public facilities—as well as in services, gas, and mining.
